Kunga Kids Yoga Teacher Training

with Jess Bichler, 500ERYT

May 22nd – 24th, 2020

Kunga Yoga, born out of the commitment to children and community, now offers the opportunity to learn to create and lead yoga practices for children, ages 2-18, that builds on the Kunga Yoga foundational principles. This 18 hour training will equip certified yoga teachers, classroom educators, and caregivers with the skills to incorporate breathing, asana, and mindfulness practices into playful, child-centered yoga classes.

Grounded in developmental psychology, Howard Gardner’s multiple intelligences theory and yoga traditions, Kunga Kids yoga teacher training will engage participants in discussion, games, activities, songs, creative movement, and guided visualization designed to stimulate yoga teachers’ creativity. By developing the skills to adapt a yoga practice for age groups and individual learners with different needs, Kunga Yoga teachers can empower Kunga Kids to tap into their own strength to cultivate self-awareness and self-moderation, while introducing them to the global community.

This Training is great for Parents, Teachers, Yoga Teachers, Caregivers, or anyone else interested in learning the benefits and tools to teach yoga to children ages 2-18!

About Jess Bichler, 500ERYT

Kunga Yoga School Manager, Jessica Bichler has a rich yogic history, steeped in a variety of trainings and lineages, bringing a wealth of knowledge to her classes, workshops, and teacher trainings. Jess came to yoga in her teens, recognizing it as a path towards staying active and healthy throughout every stage of life, and began teaching in 2001. Jess has had the opportunity to study myriad yoga styles, particularly the prominent lines of Iyengar, Ashtanga, and Anusara – each complimenting her attention to alignment and core engagement gained as a gymnast – as well as therapeutic and kids yoga.

Her formal education and certifications were earned at the Morningside School of Yoga in upstate New York, Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health in Massachusetts, and most recently 200 and 500 hour certifications from the Wilmington Yoga Center. Jess holds a MA in Visual and Cultural Anthropology. Her influential teachers include Michael Smith, Stacey Millner-Collins, Cheryl Crawford, Kristin Cooper, and Noelle Cavenaugh.

Jessica loves developing a wide variety of classes including everything from gentle and chair yoga, to kids yoga, to advanced practices focusing on arm balances and inversions. Her goal is to lovingly support students down the path of living a yogic lifestyle in all aspects.

What is Kunga Yoga:

“Kunga” is a Rwandan word meaning “to serve, help, or reconcile”. The mission of all Kunga Yoga programs is to offer the teachings of yoga as a path of service to the planet, its people, and all beings. The heart of all Kunga Yoga programs is to encourage, inspire, and support healthy living, community building, volunteering, fundraising, and positive activism.

The word “Kunga” was chosen in honor of and inspired by a group of children that we had the honor of working with, the Mizero orphans of the Rwandan genocide. Our mission is supported by three primary platforms: Kunga Yoga public classes, the Kunga Yoga Teacher Training School, and Kunga Journeys service-based fundraising yoga retreats. All 3 platforms are offered at multiple yoga studios and locations across the globe.

The vision of Kunga Yoga is to connect cultures by inspiring and training individuals to approach their yoga practice and lifestyle choices as an opportunity to serve others, encourage healthy communities, and inspire positive activism. We work diligently to connect volunteers, donors, yoga students, and yoga teachers with non-profits and local and communities in need.
